Product Photography – what’s underneath?

We had fun with this set – the client wanted to show lots and lots of product, just to emphasize how much is in their kit.

The trick was to get every logo to show too. Which meant stacking boxes underneath all the product in order to raise the logo above the row in front of it. We also have a limitation on the number of products that had logos on it, for example, the shirts. Only 1 of each shirt style had a logo, so we had to stack the clothing to show the quantity but not missing logos. And the red shirts originally were on hangers – not pretty. I had the fun task of retouching the images to restore the necklines.

But the interesting part of the shot was after we were done, when we got to see just how many household items we had under all the pretty product. Boxes of Puffs, candles (to stuff the koozies), wooden blocks, Lego and Duplos, books, reams of paper, blocks of granite, cups of cement… it was rather funny to see it from the side.

It certainly looks better from the camera position, doesn’t it? But that’s all that counts, getting the right photo that will in this case be used for advertising on the web, printed postcards, and probably a catalog. That’s all the marketing department needs, one shot from the front, making everything look just so pretty.
